Art at The Orchard interview with artist Moira Johnson

We're delighted that  local artist Moira Johnson has agreed to do a little interview for the blog, she's exhibiting a selection of her original paintings here at The Orchard during the month of May.

Moira please tell us about your work? What are you currently working on?

I currently work mostly in acrylics but also like to try other media, oils, ink and watercolour and pastel.

How did you decide to become an artist?

I went on a beginners painting weekend which I had seen advertised, I enjoyed it so much that I enrolled on a painting evening class run by the college. After that I became a member of Wisbech Art Club.

What's the best advise you've been given as an artist?

To take time to look, and notice varying colours and tones.

What do you do when you are not creating?

I do some part time office work and also volunteer in Peckover House Gardens.

What are your life and work goals for the future?

To take every day as it comes and make the most of it.

Moira you're currently exhibiting some of your original artwork here at The Orchard where else can we find your work?

I am a member of Wisbech Art Club and exhibit my paintings at their Summer Exhibition held in the Pump Room, Wisbech Castle during Rose Fair week, and also the Winter Exhibition held in the autumn at St Peters Church. I also take part in local exhibitions.

I have a page on the SAA Website (but need to upload some more paintings).

Many thanks to Moira Johnson for agreeing to be interviewed for The Orchard Tea Room and Farm Shop Blog. You can view Moira's art daily 10am -4pm during May 2016 at:

May at The Orchard Wisbech

May time is Blossom time here at The Orchard Wisbech:

we're open daily 10-4 if anyone wants to come along and see / photograph the blossom.

May and the 1st of the locally grown strawberries hit the farm shop, they're so delicious

and of course it wouldn't be Spring time without locally grown asparagus

fresh in the farm shop daily.

This May we have local artist Moira Johnson exhibiting her art in the tea room,
how's this for a typical Fenland scene?

This month of May has been dog show time here at The Orchard Wisbech, we've already had a Shaman's Legacy dog show at the beginning of the month

followed last weekend by the Sunshine Centre for Therapeutic Riding 's annual May Dog Show

and the final dog show of the month will be on 29th May for Shamans's Legacy.

We've been serving lots of Afternoon Teas in our tea room this month, they make a sumptuous birthday tea for any age and of course they make a lovely gift too.

We have afternoon tea gift vouchers for sale at £12.95 per head.

New season Asparagus

We are pleased to announce that the very first of the locally grown asparagus is now available in our farm shop. A delicious spring time treat that just happens to be very good for you:

"Asparagus is low in calories and is very low in sodium. It is a good source of vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium, and zinc, and a very good source of dietary fibre, protein, beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamin, riboflavin, rutinniacinfolic acid, iron, phosphorus, potassium, copper, manganese, and selenium,[18][19] as well as chromium, a trace mineral that enhances the ability of insulin to transport glucose from the bloodstream into cells."  source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asparagus

Of course we're also very busy in the kitchen preparing asparagus dishes such as asparagus soup and asparagus quiche for our tea room customers. So whether you want to cook it yourself or enjoy the efforts of our cooking get yourself down to

Art at The Orchard interview with artist Richard Carrier

We're delighted that artist Richard Carrier has agreed to do a little interview for the blog, he's exhibiting a selection of his original paintings here at The Orchard until 2nd April

Richard please tell us about your work? What are you currently working on?

My work is inspired by different styles of art and artists, so you will find elements of Pop art, art deco poster art, street art and steam punk all in the mix. I follow and continue to be inspired by artists like Andy Warhol, Banksy, Blek Le Rat, David Hockney and Lora Zombie to name a few.
At the moment I'm currently working on re-imagining some old canvases I done a few years back - so watch this space!

How did you decide to become an artist?

I drew a bit when I was a kid and teenager, but then life comes along and you do other stuff, but around 15 years ago I started to get back into it, I had no idea of what to draw, so I copied images of stuff I liked and then after a few years started to gain confidence in trying out my own stuff. It's been a slow process but a good learning curve.

What's the best advise you've been given as an artist?

There is no right or wrong, just do what you enjoy and be creative.

What do you do when you are not creating?

Working full time, decorating, being an awesome husband and father, updating facebook.

What are your life and work goals for the future?

I would love to be more involved in the arts, working with other artists, setting up more exhibitions and creating/ being influenced by different styles of art and artists.
I'm also looking at doing a bit more travelling with my wife.

Richard you're currently exhibiting some of your original artwork here at The Orchard where else can we find your work?

The Orchard is my first exhibition in this area since moving from Kent last year, I have other pieces of work ready for print and if there is a good response then I would love to come back and hold another exhibition here. Im also contacting other galleries both in Cambridgeshire and Kent to see whether they would be interested in taking on some of my work.

You can find out more about my art through my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RichBot-art-520124054721767/ or through Instagram http://instagramrichbot_art
